Emnambithi Striders athletes took part in the Mountain Trail Run last weekend in Harrismith.
Nine of them participated, running a 15km race that is known to be one of the hardest in the world.
Joey Pillay, who was one of the participants, said the race was ‘extremely tough’.
On the up-side, he explained how beautiful it was to reach the top of the mountain. “The view of nature was simply breathtaking, making it all worthwhile” he enthused. The group from Ladysmith ensured that they stuck together the entire route.
About 300 people from all parts of South Africa entered.
The Striders athletes left on the Saturday morning (October 16), which was race day, having some coffee and making new friends before taking on the gruelling route.

“The people of Harrismith were very welcoming and accommodating,” smiled Mr Pillay.
This race is held annually and the Emnambithi Striders members will be running again next year as well!
