Ladysmith KZN: MEC hands over sports facilities

10 schools and 10 local sports clubs have received sporting gear

Minister of Sports, Arts & Culture Nathi Mthethwa handed over a state-of-the-art multi-purpose sports facility and equipment at Khethani Sports Field under Okhahlamba Local Municipality yesterday (October 20).

MEC Mthethwa was accompanied by his KZN counterpart, MEC Hlengiwe Mavimbela, as well as uThukela District Deputy Mayor NW Mchunu.

The facility consists of a soccer field with changing and referee rooms; a borehole for fresh, clean drinking water; and a combi court for netball and volleyball. It also boasts tennis and cricket courts, as well as a kiddies’ court for various activities.

This ministerial outreach programme has been facilitated in an effort to enhance the capacity of sport and recreational clubs through the provision of sporting equipment and attire for struggling clubs and schools.

A total of 10 schools and 10 local sports clubs have received sporting gear from the Minister.

Later in the day, MEC Hlengiwe Mavimbela, District Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko, Deputy Mayor Mchunu, Speaker PG Strydom and other officials visited the Amahlubi Royal House. The purpose of the visit was to try and address various issues raised by the community of Ward 12, under Inkosi Hadebe.
