Ladysmith KZN: 46-year-old nabbed with illegal firearm and ammo

He was found with a 9mm Luger pistol and 13 rounds of ammunition

Bergville police arrested a suspect on Monday morning (October 11) after receiving a tip-off that a person was in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Sergeant Zwane and Constable Mthembu of the Bergville Visible Policing (Vispol) Unit traced the suspect to a premises in the Woodford area. When the suspect saw the police vehicle, he tried to make a run for it, but the officers gave chase and caught him. He was found with a 9mm Luger pistol and 13 rounds of ammunition.

The 46-year-old faces charges of being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if it has been used in the commission of any crimes.
