Ladysmith KZN: 9 people dead in bus crash on N3

Multiple injuries were also sustained, ranging from critical to minor

An Eldo Coaches bus travelling on the N3 Johannesburg-bound this afternoon (October 12) was involved in a horror crash past the Bergville turn-off near the Tugela River.

It is alleged that one of the tyres burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The bus veered across the southbound lane and overturned.

It has been reported that nine people lost their lives, including a baby. In addition to the fatalities, five people are in a critical condition, 30 sustained moderate injuries and 25 suffered minor injuries.

Ladysmith and Colenso police, the K9 Unit, as well as emergency personnel from Ladysmith, Estcourt, Mooi River, Pietermaritzburg and other areas rushed to the scene.
