ESTCOURT KZN: Multiple fatalities in N3 bus crash [VIDEO]

The N3 near the Tugela River was the scene of a deadly crash, involving an Eldo Coaches bus today (October 12) at about 11:30.

Nine people, including a child, were killed, five critically injured and scores others hurt after the bus, which was travelling on the northbound lane towards Gauteng, veered off the road and ploughed across the centre median.

The fully-laden bus then overturned before it came to a standstill on its side in an adjacent vacant field.

The bus occupants were ejected from the vehicle and when emergency services approached the scene; several of the passengers were found strewn around the vehicle, either dead or injured.

A united effort from all emergency services ensured that the survivors were treated on scene and if needed, transported to either Estcourt or Ladysmith hospitals.
