NEWCASTLE KZN: Job scammers are posing as municipal officials

Any municipal job listing is advertised on the official website, in the municipal newsletter, and in local newspapers.

Newcastle Municipality has once again reiterated that jobs are not for sale.

This follows further reports of job scammers posing as municipal officials and duping victims into paying for non-existent posts. The municipality has warned residents to not make payments in exchange for jobs, because this is considered corruption.

Municipal Head of Communications, Mlungisi Khumalo said in a recent statement:

We appeal to all individuals who may have fallen victim to these scammers to report the matter to SAPS as soon as possible.”

He went on to say that the municipality had a fair and transparent hiring process. All municipal job listings will be advertised on the official website (www.newcastle.gov.za), in the Eyabantu municipal newsletter, and in local newspapers.

Addressing both job scammers and those paying for municipal jobs, Khumalo added:

Those who are caught committing such a crime will face the wrath of the law and will be prosecuted.
