VRYHEID KZN: Is there a sudden service delivery improvement in town?

During a previous enquiry, it was stated that rainfall stopped the municipality from properly patching the holes

The Vryheid Herald enquired from AbaQulusi Local Municipality regarding the patching of potholes since the new budget commenced in July 2021. Residents have been complaining about potholes growing in size on a daily basis. During a previous enquiry, it was stated that rainfall stopped the municipality from properly patching the holes. But recently, municipal workers have been spotted around town, hard at work patching potholes, repairing broken manhole covers and cementing sidewalk surfaces. “We have resumed with the programme of patching potholes in town and in our townships, after the approval of the new budget in July. Due to the recent rains, we temporarily stopped, as it is not an adequate job to fill the potholes when the ground is wet. Once the weather clears again, we will continue. This is a continuous programme. We have also embarked on the repainting of traffic lines, as promised. We have not yet covered all the areas, but again, this is a continuous programme. We have also embarked on the following – storm-water drain cleaning, construction of curb-laying, pipe-laying, channel construction and driveway maintenance.“
