NEWCASTLE KZN: Almost 2000 doses administered during district Vooma Vaccination Weekend

DoH hopes to achieve herd immunity, and this campaign is certainly playing an important role in this goal.

From Friday to Sunday (October 1, 2, and 3), 1 824 residents within the Amajuba District were vaccinated against Covid-19.

Assistant Director of Communications for the Department of Health (DoH) in KwaZulu-Natal, Nonhlanhla Khuzwayo said 1 037 doses were administered on the Friday, 437 on the Saturday, and 350 on the Sunday.

She explained the campaign would continue until 70 per cent of the national population is safeguarded against Covid-19.

“The campaign serves to inspire unvaccinated people to visit vaccination sites and get vaccinated. The Vooma Vaccination Weekends are aimed at helping South Africa ensure 70 per cent of the population is vaccinated by the end of December.”

Discussing the effectiveness of the campaign, Khuzwayo commented on how safe and easy to receive vaccines are, and their role in protecting people against serious illness, hospitalisation, and even death.

DoH hopes to achieve herd immunity, and this campaign is certainly playing an important role in this goal.

“People wishing to be vaccinated need to visit a vaccination site (without needing an appointment) and present an identity document, which will allow them to be registered and vaccinated immediately and free of charge. The campaign was successful, seeing the large turnout and the demand,” she concluded.
