VRYHEID KZN: Nardini athletes sprint their way through the rain

This was the Grade 1 and 2’s first sports day experience

Nardini Convent School’s sports day took place on September 27. Rain delayed the start to the day, but did not dampen the learners’ spirit. Excitement rippled through the school ‘houses’ – Bosco, Michael and Francis – as the learners cheered for their team members as one race after another was run. This was the Grade 1 and 2’s first sports day experience. The Foundation Phase learners ran short but sweet races and they were awarded buttons for first, second and third place. Medals, trophies and a shield went to the following winners:

Emihle Sangweni won Junior Girl Athlete of the Day. Bayanda Kgaladi won Junior Boy Athlete of the Day.

MacCrimmon Cup for best time (boys U/13) in the 1200m and Pillay Trophy for Senior Boy Athlete of the Day was awarded to Agape Nyawo.

Nevelling Cup for best time (girls U/13) in the 1200m – Snakho Shoba.

Nardini PTA Trophy for Senior Girl Athlete of the Day – Zibusiso Mdlalose.

Celeste Kok Trophy for Junior Relay and Golden Peak Spur Shield for Senior Relay – Francis House. Francis House also became Nardini’s winning house for 2021.

Our grateful thanks to all the staff of Nardini and all other officials who came on board to make the day a success. We would like to thank in a special way Mr Mdletshe and Miss Chloe Henstock for the hard work in preparing the children for the day and putting the programme together. Thanks also to our Lady of Honour, Mrs Cara-Lee Nel, for presenting the trophies to the winners. Mrs Nel has been our Grade 3 teacher and she is now preparing herself to leave the country for greener pastures. We wish her well in her new adventure and God’s blessings for the new start.
