Ladysmith KZN: Stepfather sentenced to 18 years behind bars for rape

The case was heard in the Ezakheni Regional Court

Sifiso Mwelafe was recently sentenced to 18 years of direct imprisonment for raping his stepdaughter.

One day in 2012, he picked his stepdaughter up from school in Roosboom and on the way home, he pulled over in a quiet area and raped her. The young girl was 14 years of age at the time.

She did not tell anyone about the trauma she had faced until eight years later, which was last year. The victim reported the matter to police in September 2020.

Four days after reporting the crime to the SAPS, the arrest was made.

The Uthukela Tracing Task Team and Constable SP Miya worked hand-in-hand to thoroughly investigate the case, which was heard in the Ezakheni Regional Court.
