ESTCOURT KZN: Municipality launches service delivery ‘spring attack’ programme
Aimed at maintenance and repairs, the initiative kicked off on September 1 and will continue until the first week in October
With municipal elections a month away (November 1), Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality has decided to flex its service delivery muscles.
While some may see this as a pre-election attempt to woo voters, the municipality has branded it as a ‘spring attack’ programme.
Aimed at maintenance and repairs, the initiative kicked off on September 1 and will continue until the first week in October.
Municipal Manager Patrick Mkhize described it as ‘one of the municipality’s attempts to catch up in delivering quality service to the community’.
“The Department of Public Works & Basic Services took a giant leap on September 1 when they launched a versatile programme that intertwines the civil and electricity units. This programme aims to deal with pothole patching, cleaning of drains, fixing of street lights and traffic lights at intersections, and maintaining the substations,” explained Mr Mkhize.
Contained in a schedule submitted by the municipal manager’s office is a list of the work that has been completed so far, as well as the locations.
Repairs and maintenance to potholes, street lights, substations and drains have reportedly been taking place in the central business district, Colita, Forderville, Gellington, Drakensview, Papkuilsfontein, Kwezi and Wembezi, with Weenen also on the cards.
“We will continue attending to Forderville bus routes and then we will be attending to Khwezi, Wembezi and lastly Weenen in the next three to four weeks,” Mr Mkhize said.
