ESTCOURT KZN: Arrests and recoveries in anti-crime operation

"The occupants of the vehicle could not account for the firearm"

Four people were arrested and a pistol and ammunition recovered during an intelligence-driven operation held in Amangwe (Loskop) on Saturday (September 18).

The Uthukela District Office, Amangwe station commander and Newcastle Public Order Policing (POP) joined forces to conduct the operation.

“A vehicle with four occupants was stopped on the R600 road. When officers searched the vehicle, a 9mm pistol and two magazines containing 11 rounds of ammunition were recovered. The occupants of the vehicle could not account for the firearm,” explained police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

The four suspects were immediately arrested and will appear in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court.

“One of the suspects is presently on bail for a case of armed robbery that took place in the Amangwe area. The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if it has been used in any crimes in the country,” added W/O Khan.
