NEWCASTLE KZN: Young novelist puts pen to paper on debut book

Spesihle says the time to reflect on her goals gave her the impetus to begin the first draft.

Spesihle Zanda Umyeni (23) took advantage of time under lockdown to become a published author.

The Hope High School alumni achieved one of her lifelong goals with the completion of The Husband; It’s More Than a Dream. The novel touches on topics including consequences of one’s words, and polygamy in the modern age.

Asked if she has a favourite author, Spesihle admitted she did not because her opinion changed with each book she read:

“At the moment, I must admit that I am enjoying the work of local author, Nelly Page Magwaza. “I refer to her as the ‘South African Tyler Perry’, because she has the ability to address serious issues in a light-hearted manner.”
