NEWCASTLE KZN: Mediclinic now offers online Covid-19 vaccine bookings

"...We feel it is vitally important for all ages to get vaccinated, which is why we are trying to make it simpler and easier..."

Residents can now book their own appointment at Mediclinic Newcastle (and other Mediclinic sites across South Africa), to receive vaccination against Covid-19 at their own convenience.

The healthcare group recently launched the Mediclinic Vaccination Booking portal, which allows for residents to directly book themselves for the ‘jab’. Prior to this, those receiving vaccines were either allocated by the Department of Health’s Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) or were among limited walk-in clients.

Chief Clinical Officer for Mediclinic Southern African, Dr Gerrit de Villiers says Mediclinic is encouraged by the influx of vaccination requests since the eligibility age restrictions were removed, and the increase in vaccinations since then.

“However, we feel it is vitally important for all ages to get vaccinated, which is why we are trying to make it simpler and easier to get a vaccine. The community around our hospitals will no longer need to concern themselves about transport or unknown waiting times as our hospitals are conveniently located.”

Mediclinic has emphasised the need for residents to be vaccinated against Covid-19, stating that vaccines demonstrated dramatic reduction in the risk of becoming severely ill from the virus and the risk of death.

A list of facilities and the specific Covid-19 vaccine being offered, are available on the Mediclinic website or via direct link.

Dr de Villiers explains the six-step registration process as follows:
  1. Register on the EVDS system (https://vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za/#/)
  2. Visit the Mediclinic website to access the portal (www.mediclinic.co.za)
  3. Select the most suitable vaccination centre
  4. Select the time and date which are preferable
  5. Bookings can be cancelled and new appointments can be made as needed
  6. Visit the vaccination centre on the appointment date and ‘make the choice for a healthier future!’

“Vaccination services are offered to both medical aid and non-medical aid members. Walk-ins will continue to be assisted, but priority will be given to those individuals who have made an appointment. This ensures we can best manage the flow of individuals through the facility. We trust this will allow the community around our hospitals to fast track their appointment to protect their health,” he concluded.
