NEWCASTLE KZN: Religious leaders pray for district’s revival

Those present believed a greater force and higher power would assist the community during the period of rebuilding.

An inter-denominational prayer session was hosted on September 2 at Theku Plaza. The event was organised by the office of the Speaker of the Amajuba District Council, Phumzile Mgcina.

Various religious leaders were invited to pray for the district and its rebuilding, following the looting and violent unrest which gripped areas of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in July.

Theku Plaza was among the business centres damaged by the unrest. Some stores at the mall were looted and others were torched, leading to the loss of many jobs.

Cllr Mgcina said the purpose of the prayer event was in response to the impact of the unrest on the local economy and the livelihood of people in the district. Those present believed a greater force and higher power would assist the community during the period of rebuilding.

“We are committed to rebuilding our communities and economies, as well as always protecting our people from illicit activities,” she concluded.
