DUNDEE KZN: 59 years – thats how long they have been waiting for a title deed transfer

"We have been to lawyers, but so far we have had no luck."

59 years… That’s how long the Meek family have been waiting for their home to be transferred into their name. Their municipal rates bill is addressed to ML Haynes, 28 Gladstone Street, although the late Herbert Meek bought the house from the late Maria Haynes on August 29, 1961, for 1600 pounds.

But whil Local lawyers are now trying to assist Mrs Meek – so watch this space.   e the conveyancing paperwork was sent down to Pietermaritzburg to be transferred into Mr Meek’s name, it never happened. Herbert’s son, Dennis, battled in vain to obtain clarity on the title deed owner, but he too hit a brick wall.

Dennis passed on in 2007 and now his widow, Jeanette (72), fears that her daughter and her family could end up on the streets should anything happen to her. “We have been to lawyers, but so far we have had no luck.”
