Protection of natural resources remains a priority to enable community members to access hygienic and potable water closer to their homes, say uThukela.
On Wednesday (August 25), uThukela District Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko – accompanied by chairperson for Water, Technical & Sanitation Cllr S Dlungwane and Ward Cllr T Hlomuka – handed over completed spring protection projects to the community of Ward 16, eMashiselweni KwaVidol.
Outlining the scope of work, Sydwalt (contractor) said that uThukela District had tasked them to carry out a spring protection project with five communal stand pipes, which is now complete and has full water pressure.

Mayor Mazibuko told those who had gathered on site that, as uThukela District, they are mandated to make sure that communities, particularly in the rural areas, have access to water supply. He said he is also hoping that the community will look after the Infrastructure to make sure they have constant water supply.
