NEWCASTLE KZN: One killed in multi-vehicle collision on the N11 (UPDATED)

Multiple people have been treated by paramedics, for injuries ranging from minor to serious.

Multiple vehicles, including 2 trucks, a minibus taxi and a passenger vehicle, have collided on the N11 (Majuba Pass). Sadly, one person has been confirmed dead.

According to initial reports, paramedics treated 21 more patients for injuries, ranging from minor scrapes and abrasions to more serious injuries. However, additional information suggest the number of patients is approximately 8.

Reporters at the scene said a downhill section of the N11, a few kilometres from the Ingogo turn-off towards Volksrust (approximately 28km outside of Newcastle), is strewn with spilled maize and the road surface is slippery.

The exact cause of the collision has not yet been determined and remains subject to an official investigation.

The Newcastle Advertiser extends its condolences to the family of the deceased.
