DANNHAUSER KZN: Angling Club ready to tackle new season

The club finished second overall in the APL, losing out only to Breakwaters

Dannhauser Angling Club (AC) is looking forward to a new season in the Angling Professional League (APL), following their stellar showing during the last outing.

Dannhauser AC held their annual general meeting (AGM) and awards last week, where they elected a new executive committee and honoured their anglers for their hard work during the previous season. Club chairperson Liaquat Ahmed praised the club for navigating the hurdles and finishing strong.

The club finished second overall in the APL, losing out only to Breakwaters. Liaquat also thanked the members for their dedication throughout the season, which saw the club gain the respect and admiration of the other clubs.

Treasurer Shokat Akram added that they were looking forward to the new season, hoping that the club would get a big boost.

Before the presentation of awards, club secretary Bradley McDonald paid huge tribute to the sponsors who had to dig deep in order to make the event possible. He also praised outgoing club captain Mohammed Irfan, who so expertly led the club last season.

Mr McDonald also told members that they need to step up fund-raising efforts in order to keep the club going. With Covid-19 and the recent unrest contributing to less funds coming in, he admitted that it was difficult and would be difficult in the future, so everyone would have to play their part.

The new executive committee is: chairperson – Liaquat Ahmed; vice-chairperson – Francois van der Walt; secretary – Bradley McDonald; treasurer – Shokat Akram; records clerk – Aadil Vawda; club captain – Inayet Ahmed; and vice-captain – Basheer Abdool.
