VRYHEID KZN: ‘Hip-hopping’ into excellent results at Eisteddfod

To this day, performers have the opportunity to showcase their talents on stage…

In Welsh culture, an eisteddfod is a festival with several different genres of competitions which also includes poetry and music. The word ‘eisteddfod’ is formed from two Welsh morphemes: eistedd which means ‘sit’ and fod which means ‘be’. According to Hywel Teifi Edwards, the word means ‘sitting-together’. He further defines the word as a competitive meeting between poets and musicians, and the winner was chosen by a noble or royal patron. To this day, performers have the opportunity to showcase their talents on stage…

Every second year, Harrismith hosts an Eisteddfod where students can display their talents, passion and love for the stage. This year was no exception and on August 20 and 21, dancers from Stepping Out Dance Academy (Vryheid and Dundee) competed in this very prestigious competition. Marina de Beer, owner and dance instructor of the academy, is proud of all the dancers and said: “We are extremely blessed to be a part of your lives and to see you grow into beautiful dancers. Well done and congratulations to our Vryheid students who competed this past weekend at the Harrismith competition. Your high spirits, passion, love and achievements, especially during these unpredictable times, are admirable.”

The results of the Vryheid dancers are as follows:

A ++(90% and up): 2

A+(85%-89%): 15

A(80%-84%): 12

B+(75%-79%): 2

“You can all be very proud of how you endured the challenges. We, at Stepping Out, are extremely proud of each and every one of you.”
