NEWCASTLE KZN: Case withdrawn against husband accused of murder

Bouwer's legal representative questioned if there was enough evidence to have his client convicted.

The Newcastle Regional Court has decided not to pursue the case against Emile Bouwer, who stood accused of murdering his partner, Lientjie Kruger in March last year.

After an intense morning in court, where the chilling details of Lientjie’s post-mortem were explained by district Head of Forensic Pathology, Dr Marek Stawicki, Bouwer’s legal representative questioned if there was enough evidence to have his client convicted. Magistrate Ngubane agreed there was not.

Outside the court, Bouwer said it felt good to be a free man but also expressed his upset at being ‘robbed’ of his entire life.

“I have nothing in life… I don’t know if [Lientjie] was buried or cremated. I lost my job and my children, and all my things have been taken,” he said emotionally. “They took away my chance to say goodbye…”
