NEWCASTLE KZN: Andre Vosloo makes his milestone 250th blood donation

"Donating blood is a selfless act when you consider how much it can mean to someone in need."

A few minutes, every 8 weeks, for more than 40 years.

Andre Vosloo visited the Newcastle Donor Centre on Tuesday (August 24) to make his 250th donation of blood. He takes pride knowing a small deed may have saved many lives.

He moved to Newcastle 31 years ago from Vereeniging and has been a regular at the local branch of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) ever since. Staff said they are fond of Andre and he appreciates their friendliness and warm-hearted service.

“I’ve always believed in doing something for others, and donating blood is a selfless act when you consider how much it can mean to someone in need. It is not a difficult task, and more people should make it a habit. I believe that children in particular, should be taught the value of blood donation and they should begin as soon as they are able,” said Andre.

Andre has urged more residents, especially the younger generations, to begin donating blood. While the ‘gift of life’ might not seem so important, he explained this vital service meant everything to a person receiving the blood.

Congratulations on this impressive milestone, Andre – the Newcastle Advertiser salutes you!
