Ladysmith KZN: Suspects crash after fleeing with stolen vehicle

''I was scared, as I heard gunshots"

Police arrested suspects in the early hours of Saturday morning (August 21) after they had allegedly stolen a motor vehicle in Newcastle.

It is alleged that the suspects stole a white Toyota Corolla and were trying to make their way to Ladysmith when they crashed into a building along the N11.

Security guard Deon Coetzee, who was on duty and guarding the building that morning, said he heard tyres screeching and a loud bang. When he turned around, he saw that a vehicle had smashed into the building wall.

”I was scared, as I suddenly heard gunshots as well and wondered what was going on,” said Deon. The next minute, he saw blue lights flashing and realised that police had been in hot pursuit of the vehicle that had crashed. ”Then I knew I was safe, as the SAPS were present,” he explained.
