Ladysmith KZN: Pavement dug up and left open for 6 months in CBD

''Is the municipality waiting for someone to fall and be injured?''

Businessmen in Alexandra Street are furious with Alfred Duma Local Municipality for digging up the pavement in front of their businesses and then leaving the hole open. They claim that the digging was done about six months ago, and then nothing… They are even confused as to why the pavement was dug up in the first place.

”Is the municipality waiting for someone, maybe one of our customers, to walk into the trench and be injured?” fumed one of the businessmen. “Why has the hole not been covered?” questioned another person.

They say they are losing business, as people don’t want to walk in the area for fear that their children will fall into the ditch.

One of the businessmen claims that he contacted the municipality to come and repair the pavement, but nothing has been done about the situation.

The municipality has been approached for comment, but none had been received at the time of publishing.
