VRYHEID KZN: Hats off to local Ezemvelo honorary officers

Ezemvelo honorary officers are selfless, unpaid volunteers who dedicate their time, knowledge and passion for nature to support Ezemvelo Wildlife, which is based in KwaZulu-Natal. These officers do the fund-raising themselves for projects like the restoration of picnic areas to offer visitors a pleasant experience.

The aims and objectives of the honorary officers are:

– To forge good relations between members, Ezemvelo and staff;

– To promote the interests of Ezemvelo;

– To render assistance to Ezemvelo wherever possible and required;

– To promote the learning and understanding of all aspects of environmental education and protection with the public.

Local rangers / officers have been hard at work updating and restoring tourist attractions in and around Vryheid. But more specifically, they have renovated and restored the following at the Vryheid Hill Reserve:

– All directional signage, from the gate to the top circle to the picnic site, has been restored;

– Gate entrance boards were erected;

– The gate register book was updated;

– The register book box was repaired;

– Ablution facilities revamped;

– Battlefield signage has been repaired;

– Point of interest signage restored;

– View site bench revamped;

– All braais renewed.

The rangers / officers urge the public, when making use of these sites, to respect the property and not vandalise or damage anything – leave it in the condition you found it in.
