Ladysmith KZN: August 26 to decide mayor’s fate – stay or go

This is not the first time the DA has filed a 'motion of no confidence' against Mayor Vincent Madlala

A council meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 26, will decide whether Mayor Vincent Madlala will keep his post or be forced to resign.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has filed for a ‘motion of no confidence’ against the Alfred Duma Local Municipality mayor.

The mayor was arrested on Friday, July 30, and faces charges of defeating the ends of justice.

This is not the first time the DA has filed a ‘motion of no confidence’ against Mayor Madlala. In March 2020, at the time of a protest that brought Ladysmith to a state of shutdown, the DA tabled a ‘motion of no confidence’ that was not successful.

The DA wants Mayor Madlala to be stripped of the privileges assigned to him, including the use of his municipal luxury vehicle and his VIP protection services.
