Endumeni has many local ladies who have made the area proud when it comes to pageants, and Noluthando Hadebe is hoping to add her name to that list.

This 22-year-old from Glencoe is a finalist in the upcoming Miss Durban Pageant. While Miss Durban is a huge opportunity for her, it’s not the first pageant she’s entered.

“I’ve been in the modelling industry for about three years now. I entered Miss Majuba College in 2019, which was my first pageant, and then I was crowned Miss Endumeni Second Princess that very same year. In 2020, I entered Miss Umzinyathi, which was sadly postponed due to the Covid-19 lockdown.”

This year, she decided to ‘go big’ by entering the Miss Youth National SA, which will be held in Gauteng in November, and the Miss Durban Face of the City Pageant, which will also be held later this year.

Miss Durban Face of the City Pageant’s semi-finals were held in June, where Noluthando qualified for the finals.

“I feel like I did my best on stage. However, the competition was tough and I was so nervous. But everything went well in the end and the journey was amazing,” Noluthando said. “I feel I still need to practice more for the finals so that I don’t panic like the first time. I’m very excited for the finals.

“I am a little bit nervous, though, about the donations I need to fund-raise for the charity work and accommodation fee, since the recent unrest and looting affected our economy.”

The Miss Durban final will be held later this year, dependent on lockdown levels.

Nolunthando also has advice for other youngsters who are interested in pageants.

“Modelling isn’t just about being pretty or tall or having a beautiful smile with perfect physical features; it’s about being a queen with backbone, being smart and confident, and believing in yourself.

“I am willing to teach or mentor those who like modelling, but feel they are not good enough or fit enough. I am based around Glencoe and Dundee, and I do free classes.”

Any aspiring models wishing to contact Noluthando can reach her on 065 719 7476.
