DUNDEE KZN: Iconic business closes after 31 years

Brian has opted to retire, but will still be keeping himself busy around the house.

A man who can fix anything electronic, Brian Baker has hung up his screwdriver and other tools, as he has called ‘time’ on his popular business called Electrocare.

For 31 years, Brian – assisted by his wife Sharon – helped many who found themselves staring at blank TV screens, forced to battle with non-co-operative microwaves and faulty fax machines, hi-fi equipment and any other electrical appliance. With his nimble fingers and mind, Brian was able to fix anything and Electrocare soon became ‘a business of necessity in The Mews on Beaconsfield Street’.

Brian’s career in Dundee was first with Telkom as a senior technician, repairing Telkom lines and cables. He then worked at Xerox for 10 years as a senior technician, repairing photocopier fax machines and other electronic appliances. Due to health reasons, Brian has opted to retire, but will still be keeping himself busy around the house. “Brian and I just want to thank all our loyal customers for their support over the years.

“We are very grateful for all the friendships we have made at the business over the years,” said Sharon with a smile.
