ESTCOURT KZN: Fossil hunting expedition in the Drakensberg

A group of residents from the Drakensberg joined Dr Gideon Groenewald on a fossil-hunting expedition on August 5.
Organised by Hannes Scharf, the group were taken on an adventure starting at Phatt Chef at the top of Oliviershoek Pass.
Dr Groenewald, a geologist and paleontologist, is formerly from Clarens and now travels between Middleburg, the Karoo and the Eastern Cape. He is also a consultant for the Gift of the Givers Foundation for the drilling of water in the drought-stricken areas of the Eastern Cape.
During the expedition, Dr Groenewald gave illustrated talks on fossil-hunting, as well as a talk on droughts, floods and the cycles thereof.
