Although DJ Mpiloz has not played any gigs in Ghana, he has shown interest in the country’s music and cemented air play on an influential radio station.

“As much as I wanted to take South African music to the United States of America and Europe, I also noticed that West African music had a strong presence overseas. That’s when my interest in learning about the music and culture of Ghana started,” explained DJ Mpiloz.

Sharing a similar vision of the music industry and career choices also placed him in a valuable position to collaborate with an upcoming Ghanaian musician, AMA Nova.

The Youth Eminence Awards Ghana 21 provides a platform for artists to be recognised and their work showcased.
The nominees list is jam-packed with influential artists from across Africa, and DJ Mpiloz will be rubbing shoulders with some of the best on the continent.

“Being acknowledged always feels like an affirmation that one is on the right path, especially now that we have to try and make an impact on the world of music from home due to these never-ending lockdowns. Even though I am still happy and celebrating the news of the nomination itself, it can only enhance and motivate me to have my music played throughout Africa and beyond,” he said when asked how it felt to be nominated in the ‘Best DJ’ category.

As DJ Mpiloz’s music journey continues to soar, he never forgets his humble beginnings or the challenges he has faced.

“After I lost everything to a loan shark who made me pay interest and took my equipment, I decided to leave my hometown and hustle hard. I had to sleep on the streets of Johannesburg for two days until I got my own place. To all the upcoming artists and DJs, this industry is not as easy as it looks. Some will make it, some will take time and some will never make it. Don’t forget to pray and ask God to show you the way,” he said.
