Ladysmith KZN: Wildfire causes water shortage in Observation Hill

Water supply is expected to be back to normal before 12 noon

Last night (August 3), a wildfire that broke out in the Observation Hill area caused damage to electrical cables in uThukela’s booster pump station at the Observation Hill Reservoir.

This has caused a disruption to the system that pumps water. Consequently, some residents living at the top of Observation Hill have been experiencing low pressure and ‘dry taps’.

uThukela communications manager Jabulani Mkhonza has commented that a team of workers from the district municipality have tried to run the system manually.

The system is now filling up and water supply is expected to be back to normal before 12 noon today (August 4). Residents are urged to be patient, as uThukela workers are currently on scene and attending to the problem.
