Ladysmith KZN: Hospital Park residents left without water

uThukela say they are aware of the new leak in the area

A burst pipe in Cilliers Street, Hospital Park, has led to residents in the area being without water today (July 27).

One particular resident is up-in-arms with uThukela, as they say their pavement was dug up to fix a previous leak. The resident claims that uThukela workers covered the hole without fixing the leak.

The area is now a muddy, watery mound covered with sand and tree branches.

With this new leak, frustrated residents say they are suddenly left without water. “The global Covid-19 pandemic is still active, so running water is needed more than ever to cook, clean and bathe,” they say.

According to information from uThukela’s Water & Technical Department, they are aware of the new leak. They say the old leak was fixed and it could be that the valve is leaking a few metres away from the previous leak.

Since this is the main pipeline, the team will have to assess the problem tomorrow and then see how best to attend to it without interrupting the water supply.

uThukela spokesperson Jabulani Mkhonza advises residents who wish to lodge a complaint about water and sewer-related issues to contact the Call Centre on 0860104257. This will help make sure that their queries are attended to much quicker.
