DUNDEE, GLENCOE, DANNHAUSER KZN: Fridges, dagga recovered as vigilance continues

SAPS, traffic officers, security officials and volunteers continue to sacrifice to keep their towns safe

SAPS, traffic officials, security officers and volunteers continued with patrols throughout the night around the area as riots and looting continue around the province.

A roadblock in the Glencoe area last night resulted in over 11 fridges recovered, suspected to have been looted from the plundered Defy factory in Ladysmith. Around 10 arrests were made.

The fridges were being transported in three vehicles.

A truck was also found in Dannhauser transporting fridges, and was soon surrounded by community members on patrol. The truck was soon escorted up to the police station.

A dagga bust was also made in Dundee. Watch for updates regarding this.

Bags of dagga were seized when Endumeni Traffic officials Thusi and Madlala pulled over a vehicle late last night

Endumeni has largely escaped the carnage that has gripped most of the province, and Gauteng.

This has been ascribed to the vigilance and dedication of the SAPS, traffic officers, private security companies and volunteers.

Security has been beefed up at shopping centres such as the Oldacre Plaza

Food supply concerns are also concerning residents who this morning rushed to Pick n Pay that re-opened after being closed for several days.

Shelves in other shops were already being emptied yesterday due to residents stockpiling.

It was reported that some garages are running short of fuel but this morning motorists reported availability of petrol in Dundee – but motorists are urged to use fuel sparingly following the announcement that the Durban refinery, the largest in Sub Saharan Africa, had suspended work.

All roads in the area reported clear this morning while the N3 remains closed until further notice.
