ESTCOURT KZN: Senior citizens welcome second Covid-19 jab

The turnout exceeded expectations

Senior citizens could not wait to get the second dose of their Pfizer vaccination amid the third wave of Covid-19 infections.

Estcourt Hospital staff ‘opened the doors’ at various vaccination sites to welcome the public back after a 42-day interval since receiving the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Public relations officer (PRO) Zandile Gamede said the turnout exceeded their expectations, specifically on June 28 at the hospital and thereafter an increase was noted at other sites as well.

“The second dose vaccination programme came at a time when there is a spike in the number of new Covid-19 infections at Estcourt Hospital, which necessitated that contact tracing teams be beefed up to meet the demand. Nevertheless, the vaccination programme is continuing seamlessly,” added Mrs Gamede.

Amid those who returned for their second ‘jab’ were a number of people aged 60 and above who were visiting the sites for the first time.

My plea goes out to all senior citizens who are yet to be vaccinated to visit any vaccination site near them and take their Identity Document with them. My sincere gratitude to the Estcourt community for playing an active role in the vaccination programme. United we will achieve herd immunity.”
