ESTCOURT KZN: Shepstone Place fraud case in court today

"Mrs Potgieter's lawyer asked to postpone to July 9. He needs to go through the docket"

The Estcourt Regional Court had granted a second postponement before the criminal case against former Shepstone Place Home administrator Debbie Potgieter gets started.

On July 2, current Home administrator Roline Vaughan returned to court, where it was expected that a date for the criminal case would be decided.

However, a postponement was granted.

“Mrs Potgieter’s lawyer asked to postpone to July 9. He needs to go through the docket,” relayed Mrs Vaughan.

Having been employed at Shepstone Place Home for the Aged for 10 years, Mrs Potgieter resigned in 2019 after auditors uncovered irregular expenditure, which they estimated at a total of R1.2 million.

Civil and criminal cases were filed against Mrs Potgieter.

The civil case concluded with Mrs Potgieter instructed to pay R500,000 to the Home; the final payment was reflected in April 2021.
