Ladysmith KZN: Don’t become the victim of a job scam

Municipal councillors' and employees' personal Facebook accounts have been hacked to facilitate this 'Job Offer Scam'

Alfred Duma Local Municipality would like to inform members of the public, especially the youth, about another syndicate that targets unsuspecting victims with a ‘Municipal Jobs for Cash Scam’. The scam promises ordinary citizens municipal jobs in return for money.

An appeal is made to all community members to be aware of this scam. Those involved in the municipal recruitment process are also cautioned in this regard.

The municipality has approved Human Resource Management policies and procedures, which are applicable in the recruitment and appointment of municipal employees.

The municipality has noted that municipal councillors’ and employees’ personal Facebook accounts have been hacked to facilitate this ‘Job Offer Scam’.

The perpetrators use these fake / hacked accounts to advance their cause.

Council is encouraging everyone not to pay or deposit any money via a retail shop or bank account for the purpose of getting an appointment for an interview for a municipal job.

The appointment of EPWP / Job Creation employees is a municipal process in which nobody should pay money in return for that appointment.

Nobody is allowed to pay anyone for a job offer and it should be clear that the municipality will not be liable to pay refunds to anyone who has been scammed through a municipal job offer.
