ESTCOURT KZN: Locals express mixed feelings about Jacob Zuma imprisoned in town

"Does he think he has come to a state-of- the-art facility for special treatment or favours?"

Outspoken Estcourt resident Angela Keyter calls the Correctional Services Department’s idea to imprison Mr Zuma in Estcourt ‘a bad idea’.

“What was wrong with Westville? Does he think he has come to a state-of- the-art facility for special treatment or favours? Or is this a whole election ploy on his part with more followers from his side?” she questioned.

On a lighter note, Mrs Keyter added: “He is very close to our golf course, maybe our local players will be thrilled to entertain him.”

Another local politician who did not want to be named, said that Mr Zuma’s stint at the Estcourt prison may be a boost for local businesses.

“An influx of visitors may mean more traffic at our businesses,” he said.

Another resident remarked ‘maybe now they’ll fix up the potholes!’

“I suspect they chose a place where he can be separated from other less high-profile prisoners and that is fairly close to the courts in Pietermaritzburg. It is disturbing that this has been made public,” another resident told the Estcourt News.
