Former president Jacob Zuma spends his first night behind bars in Estcourt

A large media contingent awaited Correctional Services Department minister Ronald Lamola as he addressed South Africans about the former president Jacob Zuma’s incarceration at the local facility.

Flanked by officials from the department, Mr Lamola delivered an address and took questions outside the correctional facility in McFarlane Street this afternoon (July 8).

The minister told members of the media that Mr Zuma was in good spirits after having breakfast and was in a jovial mood.

Jacob Zuma handed himself over to police and in a midnight convoy made his way to the ‘new generation’ state-of-the-art Estcourt Correctional Centre during the early hours of this morning.
