Ladysmith KZN: Update on electricity and water woes in Observation Hill

"We took a decision to replace the entire length of cable with a new one"

New update: The Field Team is currently busy with the last ‘termination’ and provided that all goes according to plan when switching back on, power should be restored within the next two hours.

Residents in the Observation Hill area have gone days without electricity, and water as well.

On Wednesday night (June 30), a power outage hit the area, in turn leading to low water pressure because there was no electricity to run the water pumps.

According to the spokesperson of the municipality, the Field Team tested the faulty cable and identified the section that needed repairs. It was eventually repaired and upon switch-on, the same cable faulted again but in a different segment.

“We then took the decision to replace the entire length of cable with a new one,” commented the municipal spokesperson.

That is what the team is currently busy with.

Due to the massive workload involved, this is anticipated to take the whole of today (July 2).

“We intend having the reisdents’ power back online by this evening,” says the municipality.
