NEWCASTLE KZN: How to report those who break Covid-19 rules in the Amajuba District

Here is who you can contact to report those who flout Covid-19 regulations within the Amajuba District.

When it comes to the implemented Covid-19 regulations, people are quick to dismiss them or fail to take them seriously, according to law enforcement.

Given the rapid increase in new cases, it is only fair that measures have been put in place to punish those who do not follow the rules.

As a result, SAPS KwaZulu-Natal Spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker has established a set of guidelines through which such perpetrators can be reported.

Recently during the national lockdown, more than 1 760 people were arrested in KZN for violating Disaster Management Act regulations, according to Naicker.

Naicker told national media that between June 16 and 27, police had arrested 1 025 people in various public places for not wearing masks.

“During this period, 592 people were arrested for failing to confine to their residence during the curfew, and 137 were arrested for selling or consuming liquor in a public space, which is against the rules,” he said.

Following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s national address on Tuesday, June 29, ministers on the National Coronavirus Command Council emphasised the importance of reporting rule violators during the level 4 lockdown period.

Each district in KZN has a designated officer who should be notified when perpetrators are reported. They can be contacted on the following phone numbers:

  • Ethekwini – Major General Chirwa – 079 500 0288
  • Umgungundlovu – Brigadier Gwala – 082 48 1466
