Ladysmith KZN: Truck drivers protest in Pieters

SAPS officials kept a watchful eye on the situation

Today (July 1), truck drivers blocked the road in the Pieters area due to a new law in South Africa called the ‘Demerit point system’.

This system sees points being awarded to drivers for obeying the road rules. On the other hand, should drivers disobey the rules of the road, points are deducted.

Drivers are frustrated with this new law and were protesting against it.

It is believed that five truck drivers were pulled out of their trucks and their keys were taken out of the ignition for not playing their part in the strike. They were, however, unharmed.

SAPS officials were on scene to control the situation.
