DUNDEE KZN: DHS honours Sphephelo’s singing success

As Miguel de Cervantes says: "He who sings frightens away his ills."

DHS congratulates Sphephelo Ngema for being chosen to represent the NKZN youth choir. Teachers always comment on his beautiful voice and he is such a talented young man, so it is lovely to see his talents recognised. In a short interview with him, this is what he had to say… “Music has always been something I’ve been passionate about, even at a very young age.

Growing up in a family that really loves music and supported my singing really grew my love for singing and music. I started singing in my church choir; I was one of the youngest members in the choir and even though I couldn’t hit some of the notes the way they did, I never gave up on my love for music. I also sang solos in church when I was a bit older, and everybody complimented me on my voice, which motivated me and made me realise that I had a talent for singing.

Singing has helped me through a few tough times in my life, because sometimes when words fail, music speaks best. Being in the Dundee High School gospel choir really helped me polish up my talent and grew my love for music even more.

I’m very honoured to have been selected as one of the NKZN youth choir choristers, because it means I can showcase my voice outside of church with other young and talented singers around Northern Natal. I am also grateful that Dundee High School granted me such a great opportunity, as it has been one of my goals since I walked onto the premises of Dundee High School. As Miguel de Cervantes says: “He who sings frightens away his ills.” Well done, Spephelo, and may you grow from strength to strength in this new journey!
