VRYHEID KZN: Faded road markings cause confusion in town

High Street is not the only street without proper markings

A resident recently contacted the Vryheid Herald complaining that she almost received a traffic violation fine for not parking within the white lines – lines you can hardly see because they are so faded. She explained that she had parked her car opposite ABSA Bank in High Street, but because other cars were not parked within the lines, she could obviously also not park correctly. When she exited the bank, she found that officers from Public Safety were moving around fining people who had parked incorrectly. She kindly explained to them that it is impossible to see the lines in order to park properly. High Street is not the only street without proper markings. The Herald lodged an enquiry with AbaQulusi Local Municipality about the repainting of the traffic lines in town and the municipality responded as follows: “There are processes and procedures to be followed when one needs to dispute a traffic ticket. Therefore, the concerned citizen should come to our offices and we will take it from there. The municipality has budgeted for the repainting of road markings in town in the new financial year, which commences in the month of July.”
