Ladysmith KZN: Over 50 people arrested for not adhering to lockdown regulations

Drivers who were on the road after 22:00 were stopped and arrested if they didn't have a permit

Dozens of party-goers and members of the public failing to adhere to lockdown regulations were arrested by police on Friday night (June 25).

An operation by police, led by Brigadier F Bantham, resulted in the arrest of over 50 people for failing to comply with the lockdown regulations, such as the 22:00 curfew which is in place.

The police targeted a hot-spot area in Ladysmith, which is Kandahar Avenue, where numerous arrests were made. Drivers who were on the road after 22:00 were stopped and if they didn’t have permits to be on the road, they were arrested on the spot.

Kandahar Avenue has been a problem area for many residents, who have complained about large gatherings and parties going on.

Police will be monitoring all areas of the town to make sure that people are adhering to the lockdown regulations.
