DUNDEE KZN: Social grant medical assessments go online

Currently the system allows for only Disability Grant medical assessment utilising a smart phone or a computer

SASSA is in a process of providing another alternative method of application under the new dawn of access to social grants services.

This will enable those who are equipped to be able to apply online while drastically reducing queues in local offices. The online medical assessment bookings is an alternative, and will reduce the visit of clients to more than three visits or queueing. Sunday Mbatha, SASSA spokesperson told the Courier that this new online medical booking application process does not replace the visits way of medical assessment bookings but an additional method to make a booking for disability grant medical assessments easier and faster to those with a means to make bookings online.

“This means that clients can apply for a medical assessment by a SASSA contracted Doctor assessing either in clinic or in the comfort of their homes prior lodging an application for a disability grant. A selected date that is convenient based on the availability and also select an assessment site closest to client. Any cancellation for a booking assessment made will result into a total new application for assessment. “

“The advantages of the new online medical assessment booking are that clients can book for medical assessment in the comfort of their homes. It reduces the number of visits to SASSA offices. A client receives a sms as confirmation of the booking and can also check at any time the progress of the application via the web portal. A client is able to cancel an existing appointment and re-book for a convenient date,” Mr Mbatha said.

Currently the system allows for only Disability Grant medical assessment utilising a smart phone or a computer. The system can be accessed from the SASSA website: www.sassa.gov.za/social grants/Disability grant or by directly following the link or copy it into your browser https://govchat.app (link is external).

“Once this is done a One-Time Pin (OTP) will be provided to the client cellphone to ensure security and a unique form ID. A confirmation sms with booking details and screening outcome document list will be sent to the client.
