VRYHEID KZN: Landbou learners get busy out on the farm

Currently, the Grade 11 class is busy with a feeding project to feed people in the community that are without food

If there is one thing about Vryheid Landbou, the school can keep busy and productive while maintaining excellence and newsworthiness. Ms S Thulo recently published her second book entitled ‘Dear Black Parent, a letter from your child’s teacher’.’ This book is about the important conversation that parents should be having with their children to bridge the gap between child and parent. It tackles issues of self-esteem, loving your child loudly, as well as issues around religion. A very important book for all parents, and a necessary conversation. This past week, the Grade 10 and 11 learners were busy with their farm practicals. They were given the opportunity to not only learn about tail docking, but actually do it themselves. They had to each grab one of the little lambs and put on the rubber band that cuts off the blood circulation to the tail, so that it eventually falls off. The learners enjoyed this, and it is always interesting to watch them interact with the animals. While that was happening, the Agricultural Technology learners have been busy with their welding project on the farm – a project they thoroughly enjoyed and gained from. The Grade 12s also learned how to make bails on the farm. Landbou is not only true to its name, but its intentions as well. Currently, the Grade 11 class is busy with a feeding project to feed people in the community that are without food. They are also collecting clothes. In addition, they have asked each grade to bring non-perishable items as a donation. Currently, this project is doing very well and the learners are bringing items for the less fortunate. Vryheid Landbou is one of a kind.
