Ladysmith KZN: uThukela gets water flowing in rural communities

The mayor provided 3 hand pumps to communities in Ward 19

On Monday (June 8), uThukela District Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko handed over three hand pumps to communities in the Emadongeni area (Ward 19) under Alfred Duma Local Municipality.

Addressing those gathered at the site, the mayor said, “As uThukela District, our job is to deliver water and sanitation services, and where there are springs, we protect them for safe consumption. We also supply water through pipelines, but while we’re waiting to provide the community with piped water, we will use hand pumps as a temporary measure.”

”We are happy that these areas that didn’t have access to water now have water. We will sustain this level of service delivery for communities without water, by building infrastructure,” concluded Mayor Mazibuko.
