Ladysmith KZN: uThukela provides sanitary packs for schoolgirls…

So that no young girl loses a single day of school

The uThukela District Municipality Youth Office, in partnership with the Gift of the Givers, visited Mhlwazini and Hoye Secondary School on Tuesday (June 9) to hand over more than 150 sanitary packs to learners as part of a social relief intervention. The aim was to ensure that no young girl loses a single day of school as a result of being ashamed to attend because of her ‘situation’. This also helps to keep girl children in school, as well as restoring their dignity and affording them the opportunity to be active at school.

Youth Manager Mr Mthobisi Xulu said ‘it takes a caring nation to sustain the status of holding hands in transforming and improving the lives of the disadvantaged and vulnerable’.

”As the Youth Office in the district, we recommit ourselves to focus on the intensive provision of material support to schoolchildren in the form of career guidance, sanitary packs and youth support programmes. In our endeavour to improve the quality of life for all children, our provision of sanitary towels has enabled many girl children to attend school daily without absentia,” said Mr Xulu.
