Ladysmith KZN: 20-year-old arrested for killing elderly man after night of drinking
The tavern-goers allegedly suspected the 58-year-old man of being involved in witchcraft
A 20-year-old suspect was set to appear in court today (June 7) for the murder of an elderly man that happened over the weekend.
It is alleged that late Saturday night (June 5), the 20-year-old and some friends were returning home from a tavern in the Steadville area when they spotted a man roaming around in their yard.

They proceeded to assault the 58-year-old victim, allegedly suspecting him of being involved in witchcraft or that he was a thief. After beating the man badly, the suspects dragged him out of the premises and dumped him in the road.
The victim sustained multiple head injuries and was found by a passerby, who informed the police. The elderly man died.
A murder case was then opened by Ladysmith SAPS for investigation and police arrested the 20-year-old suspect on Sunday (June 6).
The community is in shock after this act of brutality that ended in murder.
