Seven suspects were shot and killed in Pietermaritzburg yesterday evening (June 1) in a shoot-out with police. Reports indicate that the ‘big boss’ who was killed is linked to a shooting in Bergville a few weeks ago.
South African Police Minister Bheki Cele said that five guns, including an AK-47 rifle, were found at the scene.
He continued that the suspects shot dead were notorious in the area for committing numerous crimes and terrorizing the community.

He added that the ‘big boss’, who is among the seven dead, appears to have been injured a week or two ago when a man was shot dead in Bergville. Shots were fired at the ‘assassins’ and it seems that he was being medically treated for the wounds he sustained in that incident.
